I went to the Boathouse for the first time with my husband for my birthday.  He was able to make a reservation the day of (Wednesday), but I would recommend getting one earlier for a weekend day. The restaurant was very busy. We asked to sit outside, but there was an impending storm so they sat us  inside.

Our waitress was so nice and prompt. Emily came right over to take our drink order and tell us more about the specials. I ordered the Skyline Lemonade, which was good but could have used a little more lemonade. I like my alcohol where I can't taste the alcohol. I didn't feel like we waited that long to order and get our food. I got the filet mignon which was perfect. The mashed potatoes were amazing! My husband had the crab cakes and really liked them.

All in all, it was a great dinner. The view was incredible and I can't wait to go back!

I was super excited to come to The Boathouse. The ambiance & the view is beautiful. Our waitress was very nice but I couldn't help but feel like she was adding trying to add to our bill - indirectly. For example, when she offered us our water she asked, would you like tap, still, or sparkling? So we chose still - maybe it's my ignorance but I felt like she should've said for an upcharge we offer still and sparkling. Thinking these were just other options. It was too late, we saw the bottles of still water coming and knew we were dooped. Those bottles were 5 dollars each...Next my husband ordered his meal and replaced the seasonal veggies with a side salad which she said was okay, she keep insisting he add a protein to his salad. Things like that which keep raising the bill. I knew going the bill will be pretty high considering it's seafood but I just didn't like that aspect.

Now reviewing the food - the appetizers were a hit. We got 3, two were amazing and one had the potential to be just as great, the truffle fries, but sadly the fries were stale. The lack of freshness on the fries made it hard to really enjoy. For the meal we ordered from the simply grilled section. I got jumbo shrimp- hubby got salmon. My shrimp were SPICY. I don't think it's supposed to be spicy bc it wasn't advertised as a spicy dish. I couldn't eat them (I rather enjoy some spice). So maybe it was cooked with something spicy close by. Either way, I struggled to get through 2 of them (it comes with 5). The salmon was good (I tried it). My children ordered two kids meals. The Mac and cheese was a large quantity which was pleasantly surprising. My daughter loved it- again the fries weren't fresh so she didn't enjoy those. The side salads were nice and full but the salad was soggy and welted - basically a hot mess. Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere but for the price, fresh food should be provided. Our bill was almost $200 and we left a little disappointed. We probably won't visit again anytime soon or give raving recommendations but I'm willing to try one more time and see if my review can turn around.

Went to brunch on Mother's Day and while the food was good, the service was not so good considering it was a buffet meal.

The buffet had omelettes, ham, shrimp, red meat, crab cake balls, smoked salmon and cooked salmon, veggies and lots of other options. Everything was good. Even the deserts- fruit, cheese and carrot cake to name several.

The service was the issue. We had to find the waiter, or ask another server to find him, and ask for water and coffee refills and finished plate removal. Not sure what our waiter was doing but he was not attentive to our table.

The meal was rather pricey so I would have expected a cocktail to have been included. No sir. Drinks were an additional $12 or so. Don't think we'll do that again.

This restaurant is one of my favorites downtown. The view from their patio is impressive, and the food is outstanding. The parking situation can be difficult on the weekends because of the limited street parking, but there is a separate parking lot that you can use. The staff has always been inviting and provides excellent service. There hasn't been one thing on the menu that I didn't like, so I'll recommend anything. Also, try one of their Sea Ghost drinks but go easy because they're stiff. If you want a great dining experience with a fantastic view, this is your place.

My cousins wedding ceremony and reception was held here and the view was simply beautiful! It has a waterfront view facing the dining area which makes a breathtaking background for pictures. The staff of The Boathouse are attentive, quick, and friendly! I helped my sister set up and organize the center pieces and they assisted us with open arms. The party room was a decent size that held a good amount of tables. There is a bar area in the corner and a dance floor in the middle of the room. The rustic decor was a great touch! Now off to the best part...the food! I had the Atlantic salmon with mash potatoes and asparagus. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. The sauce complemented the whole dish and the mash potatoes had a buttery taste to it. Our server had a great personality and very prompt. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a venue for any celebrations in the Richmond area!
